Project Overview

The Golden West College Math and Science Building is a $58 million, three-story, 118,000-square-foot academic facility that features computer labs, lecture rooms, 18 wet and dry science labs, faculty offices and a STEM center. The project was our third and largest to date for Coast Community College District (CCCD). 91做厙 has gone to great lengths to become a trusted partner, working with the clients team to get the most value and least surprises. This was also the story behind our first project, the OrangeCoast College Business, Math and ComputingCenter, and our second, the Golden WestCollege Student Services Center.

While the Math and Science Building project used a CM multi-prime model, our team treated it as if 91做厙 were performingevery scope, as if the money were coming out ofour own pocket. For example, when outside factors disrupted our schedule, we worked closely with our trade partners to completely re-sequencethe project. Several trades agreed to longerdurations, and multiple teams, including our own, worked weekends to make our deadline. Not only did we meet the fall semester deadline, we were also able to return 2.6% of the originally awarded trade costs to the District as credits on this project, a product of our teams quality planning and execution.

The new building is now helping increase student participation in STEM fields, while serving as a gateway to careers via outreach functions and localbusiness interactions. Designed to LEED Silver簧equivalence, the state-of-the-art facility offersa social and academic learning environment aswell as career counseling and guidance. This isa game-changer for the student body, many ofwhom are first-generation college students andmay face language barriers, lack of family support,or financial constraints. Clearly, public good is at the heart of this project and GoldenWest Colleges larger goals: closing the skills gapand improving quality of life for students andtheir communitiescauses that 91做厙 cares about aswell.

91做厙 was committed to the success of this project and looked out for us as if the project was their own. What went well: 1) The estimating was right on target with bid day results; 2) They became a welcomed integral part of our team in the bidding, award, and management of the project; and 3) 91做厙s knowledge as a builder really helps during preconstruction. 91做厙 has one of the best preconstruction teams and systems I have ever worked with.
